Ashley’s Daily Psychic Insight:

Forgiveness comes in many forms. The concept, although it seems simple, is not always easily given or accepted. I’m sure you’ve heard stories of impossible situations where individuals choose to forgive rather than hold on to the situation or circumstance. It takes a lot of courage at times to forgive others as well as ourselves. When we hold on to situations or grudges it impacts our lives creating disharmony.

It’s time to let go and move forward from the anger, frustration, or resentment you’ve been holding on to. True forgiveness is needed in this situation to help set you free. Once you let go you will feel lighter and happier.

Here are some ways to start taking the steps needed to forgive:

  1. Try to identify why you hold on to the grudge or situation. What happened in the situation that is creating such hatred towards yourself or the other individual? What feelings are accompanying the situation? Take a moment and close your eyes. Try to feel into the situation to understand the underlying feelings within. The first step is an acknowledgment of the situation.
  2. Are you blaming someone or yourself for something? Are you avoiding the situation altogether? If you find this is true it may be time to release the feelings of anger and frustration. Be kind to yourself when reviewing the situation or circumstance.
  3. Consider what the impact is to yourself from holding on to such an experience or grudge. Is it draining you? Are you exhausted? Who is being impacted by holding on to this forgiveness the most?
  4. Ask yourself what you need to do in order to move forward. It could be sitting with a loved one or friends to talk to or even talking to a professional about the experience that may help in this situation. You may just need to let it all out. Self-love can also be helpful such as a massage, a walk-in nature, or a nice quiet drive. Do what you need to in order to release what you’ve been holding on to.

I’ve also heard a story about a monk that might give you a new perspective on letting go and moving forward. The story I found is, ” Two Monks and a Woman – a Zen Lesson.” (Ahlahlau, 2014, https://www.kindspring.org/story/view.php?sid=63753)

“A senior monk and a junior monk were traveling together. At one point, they came to a river with a strong current. As the monks were preparing to cross the river, they saw a very young and beautiful woman also attempting to cross. The young woman asked if they could help her cross to the other side.

The two monks glanced at one another because they had taken vows not to touch a woman.

Then, without a word, the older monk picked up the woman, carried her across the river, placed her gently on the other side, and carried on his journey.

The younger monk couldn’t believe what had just happened. After rejoining his companion, he was speechless, and an hour passed without a word between them.

Two more hours passed, then three, finally the younger monk could contain himself any longer, and blurted out “As monks, we are not permitted a woman, how could you then carry that woman on your shoulders?”

The older monk looked at him and replied, “Brother, I set her down on the other side of the river, why are you still carrying her?”
