I’d say to tap into that magician energy; when manifesting you must allow the universe to harness/flow naturally. The death card represents rebirth and transformations, but now that it’s reversed this could mean you’re subconsciously resisting change, yet expecting results. You can’t ask for change, you have to be the change. Physically work towards your goal that way the universe can meet you half way.

Maybe it means that the universe heard you, but that it’s not quite time yet. Remain patient, change is coming!

In my personal experience, I’ve always learned that there was a reason for my waiting or suffering. You can’t see it until the plan is complete.

I got the opposite of what I wanted a lot after the end of a particularly intense relationship. I’d say it’s the cards telling you that you can’t just wait for the change to come. You’re still in the middle because you have to slog through this mess and haven’t found the change you need yet. When you do, the card will be upright.

. It’s not the opposite of what you wanted, it’s saying something needs to be taken care of before a change can happen. I would advise doing a spread to see what you need to work on in order to move forward.

It’s important to read the cards in the context of both question and position. You were doing a ritual for change when the card came up, the card is telling you that you’re not ready yet because something is holding you back.

What question did you ask when drawing your card? Just pulling a card can leave you without direction.

Edited to add: it’s also worth thinking about what tarot means to you as you start your journey. What are its power and its limitations? Do the cards come up by chance, or are they chosen for you in some supernatural way? Are you interpreting them yourself, or are you channelling a spirit or other being when you come up with the meanings? Does tarot have power over you, or are you employing it as a tool? There’s no one universal answer to these questions, and answering them for yourself will serve you well.

For me, as a secular reader, if I knew that I wanted change and intended to create a ritual around it, and then drew a card that seemed to oppose that, I’d be likely to disregard it and draw another card. I might keep in the back of my mind that there could be some small thing that I want to keep and not let go of while going through the change I’m planning, but I wouldn’t let a card sway me from what I already knew I wanted and intended to do.
