Tarot has always interested me and I finally bought a deck that called to me. It is only the major arcana sadly. What kind of readings can I do with the major arcana? Where’s a good place to start studying?
Thank you all! 🙂

I started by pulling and studying a card each day, pull it, research, meditate on it. Get to know the cards and your deck.

What helped me most was to try to imagine how it would feel to be in the card, and try to associate it with a memory I already have. I’m not sure if it is the same for everyone, but I find remembering “feelings” is easier than trying to memorize words and meanings. Feelings can also be easier to interpret (than specific words) in the different positions of a spread.

Good morning Fresh Water Siren 6! (That’s a lot of emergency vehicle sirens!)
Congratulations on ordering your first deck! It’s always a great feeling.
Kind of like a first date. But without all the fear, anxiety, self-doubt, disappointment, tongue-tied stammering, overwhelming hope that this is the one, bad memories of all the other first dates completely went the opposite direction from heaven, disgust with how they eat, annoyance that they don’t look at all like their picture, shock that this one also reminds you of your mom when she’s angry, etc.
hahaha Well, THAT was unexpected. But certainly fun.
As you have already ordered your deck, it sounds like you are well past the beginning. Fortunately, having only the major arcana, all of your readings will be major and awesome! So no worries. (Everybody knows, the minor arcana was just leftover ink.)
I recommend you start studying: 1) creating your own Youtube channel, 2) developing a website selling your readings, 3) signing a book deal, 4) (last but not least) how to block an obviously insane person on Reddit 😉
In other words, enjoy your shine with your new cards and an open, spacious and relaxed heart. I’m confident you’ll do great. 🙂 And if you need any help, just turn on the fresh water siren in hopes I don’t hear you asking. :-p

Read some books. Some will resonate with you, some won’t. There’s no “wrong” way to read tarot and every reader has a different style. Learn to understand your particular deck and if it’s not feeling right, find another one. It should start to feel like an old familiar friend.
Pick a spread and really dive into it so you don’t have to constantly look up which position means what. You can and will expand your spread knowledge.

Pull and study them, or (and I’ve found this more helpful personally), find someone who’s willing to let you practice doing readings! I recently reconnected with an old friend and we’re both still novices when it comes to tarot, but we’ve been having so much fun reading for each other, and I find it’s a bit easier to catch onto the meanings of the cards when I have someone else to do it with. I love hearing their reactions to or interpretations of the things I pull; that helps solidify their meaning to me even more.
Above all else: congrats, and enjoy your new deck.

Books are definitely the way to go, I love 78 degrees of wisdom by Rachael Pollack, Tarot for self discovery (forgot the author), and A workbook called Tarot for yourself by Mary K. Greer. I also think it’s helpful to find one (and only one) online source or reader (maybe a blog or youtuber) that you really resonate with or are inspired to help you study! Most importantly, try not to fall victim to all the “cheat sheets” and other nonsense, trust yourself and how YOU feel about the cards and imagery. Good luck on your journey 🙂

I sometimes have a hard time retaining what I read, so I began learning through a podcast. I learned through Theresa Reed’s Tarot Bytes. She does short little 5-8 minute podcasts on each card. She references several famous books and gives more than one interpretation (including reversals). That may be a great way to start and build upon if you’re like me.

I always keep a couple books to reference the cards from besides the paper one it comes w. That way you can interpret it yourself and check the actual meaning to compare! That’s what’s I did to help me memorize cards in the beginning. Also bonding w the cards! Charge under moonlight, sleep w them under your pillow, carry them around. I’ve found the more you find personal connect the more you get out of it. It’s all personal to you so whatever feels right usually is ✨

You can ask anything you want, but I find Tarot is best suited to what is going on with you. What you can expect from a certain situation, what path you should follow. Say a little prayer to bless your deck. Shuffle, cut, pull 3 cards. Past Present future. (I would just read upright cards, so just turn them upright.) Look up the meanings, and think about it for awhile. Bingo! Sometimes its just amazing, really. The cards will take your inventory. Oh yea, have fun

Honestly the best way to study is just do readings. Look up the meaning and what not as you need to and eventually you’ll begin to pick it all up. Just enjoy it, the best way to learn
