To be honest my interest in Tarot started because I was obsessed with a guy from college and I would spend hours watching pick a card readings on youtube. Until one day I decided that I needed to learn Tarot myself because I wanted information about that guy and also my life in general (I was a mess during all this).

Sometimes I’m very curious to know what leads people to learn tarot. If you want to share some of your stories would be nice.

I have always felt drawn even as a young teen. I remember receiving some cards in the mail. And I would practice on my friends. Was even on point back then were my friends still speak about it.

My mom tried to teach me when I was 10 lol. I didn’t really get that good a grasp on it because I was too young. I dabbled here or there as a teen, but without a really good understanding of the cards/different situational meanings. I’ve only recently got back into it, but a big pull is me not having control over certain situations and wanting insight when none can be provided in any other manner. So, mostly a comfort thing, I think.

An artist I love created a deck, so I bought it. When I “played” with the cards, it was instant, I was hooked.

I went to sleepaway camp in middle school asked my mom to send a deck, figured it would go well with the inherent occult aspects (Ouija boards, Light as a Feather, etc.). I ended up getting teased for being a “dyke witch,” got back into it 20 years later.

I’ve always been interested in tarot since I first learned what it was as a kid. Grew up and mostly forgot about it only to have met my bf who wanted to give me a reading a few months into knowing each other (as friends). Ends up doing like a six card spread for me and whaddya know it said there was gonna a new love interest in my life. So basically that meme of “my tarot cards said we should fuck” bc that’s exactly what happened so I was like damn they really don’t be lyin huh? After that he gifted me his deck and it has not steered me in the wrong direction even once.

    Curiosity.

Simple as that, I was curious and there was a book for beginners on sale. In my case, it really wasn’t that deep, I just wanted to know more about it because while there were some other books on divination at home we had nothing about tarot.

As a teenager I became obsessed with finding a copy of the Vertigo Tarot. And when I went away to undergrad, all of my friends with Tori Amos albums were *super* into Tarot. I would sit back and just watch. (Although my beliefs even as a young person tended toward mysticism, I was raised in a Southern Baptist church during the tail end of the Satanic Panic, and my parents would’ve *freaked* over Tarot cards.)

Still, when I was 20 or so, I went to the Tarot store in my college town to ask if the owner had ever heard of the Vertigo Tarot or knew how I could get my hands on one. The owner of the store said to me in a huff, “I have it at home. Even if I knew how to get another copy, I would *never* sell it to *you.* It’s *very* hard to use, and it *isn’t for beginners.*” I thought that was rude, but I said nothing and still bought a deck from her. (*That* deck, a RWS clone, was *actually* hard to use, because how much you know about Tarot has very little to do with whether you connect with a deck.)

Anyway, The Vertigo Tarot was reissued like 5 years later, so that’s when I bought a copy.

tl;dr my “holy grail” got me into Tarot, and also, I get really irritated when people imperiously tell beginners what decks they “shouldn’t” buy

my best friend is a tarot reader, and I’ve watched her for years bring comfort to people who really needed it and always admired her so greatly for it. I was also super fascinated with how she could speak on a situation so precisely just by knowing these cards. she really encouraged me to start on the path of my own spiritual journey, and as soon as I felt it was my time and was drawn to a deck, I knew I’d found my calling.

being honest, a video game. a mobile game called “the arcana” is a roleplay romance game that has tarot involved, along with magic (although it’s kind of the more romanticized version of magic, it still involves tarot magic). highly recommend 😛

My patron basically going “You know what you need to develop more? Intuition. You know what’s a great way to train it? Try learning card reading.”

I’d been interested for about 8 years before I got my first deck.

Chandelle LaVaun’s [The Coven](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07CCFXJHD?ref_=dbs_dp_wam_ser_img_widg&storeType=ebooks) series is what gave me the push to finally purchase it.

When I was in college I did a project about cryptids in the US (like bigfoot, mothman, etc). I designed a poster and drew little cartoon versions of all the cryptids. One of my professors told me that I should make a tarot deck with all my little guys in it and they would totally buy one if I did. So I bought an RWS deck and started researching! I ended up falling in love with tarot, and while I still want to make my own deck someday, I realized that I still have a LOT to learn haha.

I got a tarot reading when I was 18 just for fun, I was handed a flyer while I was on a trip with a friend, so we decided to go get a reading. It was surprisingly accurate it almost brought me to tears. I wasn’t expecting that. I didn’t get my own deck until I was 23, when I got very into meditation/spirituality and found myself having a strong intuition about many things, and watching those general tarot readings on YouTube. A lot of them struck a cord in me, and I wanted to be able to do the same for others. 🙂
